Vitralit® UV Curing Adhesives FAQ's

How do UV adhesives work?
UV Adhesives are transparent adhesives that will bond plastics, glass and some metals. They remain in a liquid state until they are exposed to high intensity UV light.
What type of UV light do I need?
Depending on the particular product you will need a UV light system that emits high intensity (minimum 40mW/cm²) UV(A) at either 365nm or 405nm. Please refer the product technical datasheet.
What type of UV light system do I need?
This really depends on your application. If you have a high speed production process then you could integrate a PLC controlled UV light system such as the Honle or for large surface area bonding you may want to use the Honle.
If you are an artisan craftsman working on small handmade pieces then consider a high power LED Torch, LED Laser Pen or an LED hand/flood lamp. For laboratory work or bonding multiple parts you may want to consider a UV Curing Chamber.
Is UV adhesives and UV light sources harmful?
We always recommend wearing protective gloves when using adhesives and of course wear UV resistant protective glasses when using a UV lamp. Never look directly at the UV light source and always use the UV light in a protected area. For example in a workshop use black partitions or screens to screen off the UV bonding area. On a high speed production line consider using polycarbonate UV resistant UV light guards in front of the light source. Ensure you read the adhesive safety datasheet before using the glue. Always read the operator safety instructions when using high intensity UV light
Can UV adhesives be used as a coating?
Yes, we can supply dome coating adhesives and conformal coating adhesives.
Are UV adhesives suitable for medical applications?
We supply a large range of USP Class VI and ISO 10993 medical grade UV adhesives used to bond many different applications including, plastic tube/bag combinations, tube/cannula sets, syringe needle bonding, blood filters and much more.
Do I need to treat the materials I want to bond before using the adhesive?
All substrates need to be clean and free of grease, dirt or moisture. Surfaces can be cleaned with Eurobond Adhesives Surface Cleaning Wipes or liquid Isopropyl alcohol. Some plastic such as PP, PE or SAN may need pre-treatment using plasma or corona discharge. Refer the the adhesive technical datasheet for its suitability to certain substrates. Or call our technical team to discuss your specific application.
Can UV adhesives bond medical syringe needles?
Medical syringe needles are produced in massive quantities, and to ensure an efficient production process, rapid and reliable needle bonding is essential. Eurobond Adhesives have a range of UV light curing products that inject some practicality and highspeed performance into the process.
